ABOUT LANGKAWI ISLAND
Langkawi is a group of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, off the northwestern coastline of Peninsular Malaysia and known as Pulau Lagenda, or Legendary Island with good reason. The island has been designated a UNESCO Global Geopark, Southeast Asia's first, and Malaysia's pride. Tourists come here for the delightful beaches, superb resorts and refreshing nature-based activities. It is also well known for its diversified festivals and events held throughout the year and is a duty-free island, providing a desirable variety of products of local and international standards.
Langkawi has something for everyone and is an extremely secure place for tourists. Activities include snorkeling, yachting, diving, golf, trekking and more. The island will not disappoint first time as well as repeat visitors.
LANGKAWI NATURE
The island is home to approximately 200 species of birds, of which about one third are migrants and a nature lover's perfect location for a holiday getaway. It has breath-taking views of the rainforest, the mountains and the countryside. Lovers of adventures can take a walk through the tropical rainforests that rise on the Gunung Raya which is the highest mountain in Langkawi. Another activity is Cave Exploring. Langkawi is full of caves and fissures. Mangrove tours are a must and there are many locations for this activity.
LANGKAWI BEACHES AND ACCOMMODATION
The most popular beaches for tourists to relax, sunbathe, swim, shop and dine are Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah at the south-west coast and Pantai Kok in the west. You can choose your type of place to stay from low key chalets to luxury resorts and surely find what suits your taste perfectly. On the north coast Datai Bay is where some of the island's most exclusive resorts and private villas can be found. Here is also the location of the 72-par Datai Golf Course, surrounded by tropical plants and trees, nestled on the edge of the rainforest.
LANGKAWI RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING
Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah are the main shopping areas with many restaurants of local and international standard. At Pantai Cenang you will find the most mid-range hotels and a few high- end resorts. A perfect place to eat, drink and window shop.
